3RD SCIENTIFIC MEETING OF MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA ON BATTERY-BASED ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS

The Mondragon Unibertsitatea Storage Systems research group has a long history in the field of energy storage and maintains a close partnership with companies, universities and technology centres in the sector. In 2020, the research group organized the first edition of this scientific meeting, which aims to bring together experts from the industrial and scientific community related to energy storage (both national and international).

Energy storage has been attracting a lot of interest for some years now because of the possibilities it offers in applications such as electric mobility, stationary systems or consumer electronics. Both private companies and public institutions have energy storage as one of their fundamental objectives.

Although intense progress has been made in recent years, today's batteries have significant room for improvement in a number of areas. Many researchers are trying to develop battery technologies that are more energy dense, more reliable, more sustainable and all at a lower cost. One of the technologies that seems to be on the horizon is solid-state batteries. However, this technology is still to come, and until that happens, the current lithium-ion batteries are what we have.

In this 3rd edition, the scientific meeting will focus on the management of lithium batteries, what can we do to make the most of the current technology in order to maximise their performance, minimise their degradation and, in short, get the most out of them. During the session, topics such as advanced system modelling for implementation in BMS, optimal controls at cell level, battery status estimation or optimal control strategies for battery packs will be addressed.

Even if the event is face-to-face, it will also be broadcast in streaming for those who cannot move or are abroad. Participants in the face-to-face session will be able to present a poster at the poster session (instructions will be communicated in the confirmation email that will be received by the people enrolled).
