The Royal Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia) and the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences have launched a specialist diploma in ‘Standardization and Regulation of the Basque Language in the 21st Century’.
The specialist diploma in ‘Standardization and Regulation of the Basque Language in the 21st Century’ aims to offer solid training in the most relevant aspects of the standardization and regulation of the Basque language in the 21st century. It is a theoretical-practical expert diploma whose instructors will be academics involved in the daily work of the Royal Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia) and teaching staff of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University.
Training in Euskaltzaindia projects
This specialist diploma was created in response to Euskaltzaindia’s intention to adapt its function, its projects and its socialization work, and to attract and train people to work in two areas that have been active since its creation: the IKER department (standardization of the Basque language in the 21st century) and the JAGON department (promotion of the social use of Basque together with the rest of the agents involved).
Once you have earned the specialist diploma in Standardization and Regulation of the Basque Language in the 21st Century, you will be able to explain the progress that has been made to date in these areas, placing it appropriately in its social and historical context. You will also be able to identify and respond to the main future challenges in these areas based on your knowledge of the situation of 21st-century contemporary society.
The following are the professions, among others, that you will be able to pursue with this specialist diploma:
- Technician for Euskaltzaindia projects: corpus, lexicography, dialectology, onomastics, morphosyntax, language law, social use of Basque, etc.
- Technician in areas covered in the specialist diploma for public or private institutions or associations.
- Researcher in topics covered in the specialist diploma.
- Basque language technician in public or private institutions or associations.
In addition, Euskaltzaindia will create a job center at the end of the specialist diploma. Those who have earned the diploma will have preference in the job center, according to the standing they earned during the diploma program.
Cost and mode of study
Diploma classes will be taught in the hybrid format. The course will start on October 1, 2024 and end on May 23, 2025. In-person classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Euskaltzaindia’s headquarters in San Sebastian-Donostia. Thanks to financial aid provided by Euskaltzaindia, the course will cost €3,150.
