Registration: 'Interculturality and coexistence. What have we learned and what do we have to learn?'
The conference on interculturality will be held for the fifth time on the Eskoriatza campus of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of Mondragon University. The conference, which will be held on December 13, is titled ‘Interculturality and coexistence. What have we learned and what do we have to learn?’, and its main themes will be interculturality, equity and coexistence.
While the Basque language has been the focus of previous conferences, the organizing team explains this year’s theme as follows: “It is undeniable that there is social diversity in schools, and this diversity has increased with the migration of families. There are many challenges in schools related to coexistence and equity and there is a need to influence them in various fields. Economic and social inequality (not to mention aporophobia) and racism (including prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination) must be taken into account. Additionally, there are different worldviews in schools (in the areas of history, biology, sexual diversity, etc.), as well as religious diversity, the issue of identity construction, the need to encourage all families to participate, etc. We are making progress in these areas and we have learned a lot in recent years, but at the same time, we know that we still have a lot to learn.” The purpose of this conference is to share questions and challenges and reflect on them.
The fifth conference
After the introduction by Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences researchers, there will be two round tables. In the first, some teachers (Eli Dominguez, Amaia Jackson and Saioa Gomez Tejeria) will share their thoughts. In the second, parents and students Hajar Samadi, Yuan Alexandra Martínez Pareja, Ruba Hassan and Safuan Tahiri will share their experiences and reflections.
