Competences

The aim of the Doctoral Programme in Applied Engineering is that students acquire the competences of level 4 of MECES (which aims to provide advanced training for students in research techniques) and the provisions of RD 1393/2007. These competences are described in terms of the following learning outcomes.

MECES Competences

  • Have acquired advanced knowledge in the frontier of knowledge, and demonstrated, in the context of internationally-recognised scientific research, a deep, detailed and well-founded understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects, and scientific methodology, in one or more research areas.
  • Have made an original and significant contribution to scientific research in the field of knowledge which has been recognised as such by the international scientific community;
  • Have shown that they are capable of designing a research project with which to carry out a critical analysis and assessment of imprecise situations where they have applied their contributions and their work knowledge and methodology to make a synthesis of new and complex ideas to produce a deeper understanding of the research context studied;
  • Have developed the autonomy sufficient to start, manage and lead innovative research teams and projects, and national and international scientific collaborations, within their area of research, in multidisciplinary contexts and, when appropriate, a high component of knowledge transfer;
  • Have demonstrated the ability to undertake research with social responsibility and scientific integrity.
  • Have shown that they are capable of participating in scientific discussions held at international level in their field of knowledge and able to disseminate the results of their research activity to all types of public;
  • Have demonstrated within specific scientific contexts, the ability to progress cultural, social or technological aspects, as well as to promote innovation in all areas in a knowledge-based society.

RD 1393/2007 Competences

  • Have demonstrated a systematic understanding of a field of study, and the command of the research skills and methods related to that field;
  • Have shown the ability to undertake critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas;
  • Have demonstrated the ability to conceive, design, put into practice and adopt a substantial process of research with academic rigour;
  • Have shown the ability to undertake critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas;
  • Have been able to communicate their field of expertise with colleagues, with the academic community as a whole and with society in general.
  • Having shown the ability to promote, in academic and professional contexts, technological, social or cultural progress within a knowledge-based society.
