Objectives and competencies
"You will develop innovative and sustainable products that add value to those who use them"
The main objective of this degree is for you to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to create and develop innovative products that are useful, effective and attractive for the people who are going to use them.
Working in this area of industrial design consists of shaping the products that surround us by facilitating everyday life for people. You must be able to work in a team, in interdisciplinary environments, collaborating with mechanics, electronics experts, computer scientists, marketing people, suppliers… to be able to design consumer products, computer equipment, household appliances, presses, trains… in a creative, innovative and environmentally friendly way.
Therefore, you must master different aspects of product design, being able to identify the needs that users may have, turning them into real, industrially manufacturable products. Thus, starting with users' needs, you will be able to apply your knowledge of product development to plan their design, production and subsequent marketing. To do this, during the four years you will work on aspects related to product design.
COMMUNICATION OR APPEARANCE
Through the graphic representation of the concepts, the search and selection of shapes, colours and textures you will learn to create attractive products for end users.
FUNCTIONALITY AND USE
Placing the user at the centre of our work will be the main part of our everyday work. You will identify the difficulties in the use of the everyday products, interpret the needs of users, give them form and be able to provide a solution through various techniques of creativity, usability, ergonomics, etc.
TECHNICAL VIABILITY OF THE PRODUCT
Through selection of materials and manufacturing processes, calculation of reliability, profitability and sustainability of the proposed solutions.
Furthermore, thanks to our own, unique learning model based on practice, you will be able to apply all the concepts learned in real environments, thus acquiring the skills required by companies.
DESIGN INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS
You will be able to design, develop and manufacture new creative and innovative products independently.
KNOW THE TRENDS
Translating the needs and tastes of today's globalised society into new products or services.
CREATE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS
You will be able to identify and reduce the environmental impact of the products throughout their life cycle.
ANALYSE USABILITY
Analyse and identify the needs of those who use the product: ergonomics (physical and emotional), cycle of use or perception.
PERSUADE USERS
Through communication strategies, work on the appearance of the product, techniques that make the product more useful and easier to understand, etc.
CREATE COMPETITIVE SOLUTIONS
Propose technically and economically viable solutions from the point of view of materials and manufacturing processes.
The learning outcomes achieved in this degree are in line with Level 2 of the MECES (Spanish Framework of Higher Education Qualifications).
Students who meet the requirements set out in Decree 47/2012 of 3 April on ‘‘Recognition of official studies carried out in the Basque Country and exemption from accreditation with degrees and linguistic certificates in the Basque language’,you will be able to obtain exemption from accreditation of the level equivalent to C1 (EGA).
