Program: Platform Cooperatives NOW!
Platform cooperatives are a tool for creating quality jobs on a large scale and they are already a reality! At a time when the concentration of big tech companies is through the roof, this course is not limited to generating an analysis and vigilance of capitalism. It prepares people for success as platform entrepreneurs in the exponentially growing ecosystem that is the gig economy. It gives participants the opportunity to analyze, engage and become part of a generation of young leaders who experiment with innovative power-building strategies grounded in cooperative ownership of platform cooperatives. Imagine an Uber that belongs to the drivers and a Twitter that belongs to the users. It is the leap from the "shared economy" to a truly participatory economy. A shared and democratic property economy is possible.
This course has been designed for people who:
- are unemployed but looking to find decent work, especially in the service sector
- want a decent work environment in digital format, where the ownership and governance of the digital platform through which they communicate with their clients is shared
- belong to cooperatives that are in transition to platform cooperatives
This course is divided into two parts. The first part (October 26 - November 6) is made up of four sessions (Big Tech, Inequality, Gig Economy, The Cooperative Advantage, The Platform Model ...); and the second part (November 9 to January 29) is of practical orientation and consists of 10 sessions to address the incubation phase of the digital cooperative project.
