Jon Andoni Barrena and Eneko Unamuno, researchers of the Electricity line of the Higher Polytechnic School were present at IECON 2019, held on 14-17 October. The 45th edition of the annual conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) aimed to present the work "Comparative Eigenvalue Analysis of Synchronous Machine Emulations and Synchronous Machines”, prepared alongside Dr Jon Are Suul (from NTNU and SINTEF University) and Prof Marta Molinas (from NTNU University). The work focused on the analysis and comparison of different techniques for emulation of inertia and provision of primary regulation through converters connected to electrical networks. This type of control techniques will be crucial in the electrical networks of the future, and the article presents a comparative framework for choosing the most appropriate alternative depending on the requirements and characteristics of the application.
The advances presented were carried out within the framework of the COSNET and Road2DC projects, in which the Electricity Research Group of the Higher Polytechnic School participates as a partner and as a leader, respectively.
The COSNET project, “Control for the improvement of the inertial response and stability of hybrid AC/DC networks”, was funded by ERDF/Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities – State Research Agency within the 2017 call of the State Research, Development and Innovation Programme.
Conversely, the Road2DC project, "New tools for the design and control of hybrid AC/DC distribution networks”, is led by the Electricity group of the Higher Polytechnic School and was funded by the Department of Economic Development and Infrastructures of the Basque Government, within the ELKARTEK programme.
