Mondragon Unibertsitatea promotes sustainable ecological transition in Gipuzkoa
The project called "Gipuzkoa Eraberritzen" has been promoted by the Business Faculty together with the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa
Mondragon Unibertsitatea, in its desire to build a more sustainable and fairer world, has promoted the study "Gipuzkoa Eraberritzen", carried out by researchers from the Business Faculty with the support of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. The project, which was recently presented, is conceived as an essential research proposal for the construction of a Gipuzkoa that anticipates the changes that the ecological transition will bring about from the point of view of social equality and labor inclusion.
Like any transformation, the ecological transition presents both opportunities and threats. The study finds that the realization of a sustainable green transition in the business fabric of Gipuzkoa offers not only environmental benefits, but also improvements in business management, such as cost savings, efficiency and competitiveness, as well as positive social impacts, such as greater business transparency and the promotion of more flexible labor practices. However, there is concern that this transition, which could negatively affect a segment of the 45-65 age group that has not been reskilled, could represent a threat to society in Gipuzkoa.
Challenges and opportunities
Through "Gipuzkoa Eraberritzen", the researchers of Mondragon Unibertsitatea have proposed to address the problem of sustainable ecological transition from two main fronts. Firstly, by analyzing the impacts that the sustainable ecological transition may have on the employability of Gipuzkoa, which will allow a better understanding of the labor dynamics and its effects on the working class.
Secondly, once these impacts have been identified, to establish measures that companies and public institutions can take to prevent the increase of inequalities as a result of the ecological transition. To this end, a scorecard and a roadmap with positive action measures are developed, both at the corporate level and in public management.
This project represents a collective and collaborative effort, in line with the vision of a sustainable and equitable future for the Gipuzkoa of the 21st century. A project that demonstrates the region's commitment to address challenges such as ecological transition and sustainability.
