On May 26, representatives of the LANKI Institute of Co-operative Research of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences met with members of the Friends of Arizmendiarrieta Association. The meeting was held on the Eskoriatza campus and had two objectives: first, to give continuity to the relationship between the two organizations and second, to take advantage of the annual meeting to share the details of the project entitled The responsible person in the cooperative company that the LANKI Institute of Cooperative Studies is working on.
Project: ‘The responsible person in the cooperative company'
The main purpose of this project, which is subsidized by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, is to promote the culture of co-responsibility in cooperatives, based on a project launched by the Institute of Cooperative Studies LANKI in a 2021 call. In that first project, a renewed framework for cooperative governance and pathways for its implementation were defined. This framework focuses on the role of the different management bodies, the way they function, and their interrelationships. The aspect of the social person, however, was analyzed only indirectly.
In the current project, the bases for a widespread culture based on co-responsibility in the cooperative collective have been identified and various tasks have been carried out, including the identification of the theoretical foundations of people’s responsibility in light of the cooperative paradigm, the tracking of research based on responsibility, and the identification of the foundations of people’s responsibility. Additionally, six institutional factors to achieve a widespread culture of co-responsibility have been outlined, and an assessment has been done of what has been achieved through different co-creation seminars with a wide representation of cooperatives.
In the meeting held with members of the Friends of Arizmendiarrieta Association, the sub-objectives of the project were shared, including goals such as identifying people’s responsibility and characterizing the institutional factors that foster people’s responsibility in cooperatives.
For the purposes of The responsible person in the cooperative company, LANKI researchers are working in collaboration with the Social Management Department of the Mondragon Group. This project is one of the seven competitive research projects awarded to the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa in the allocations for the 2022-2023 academic year.
