Successful participation of the students of the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering at the Surfboards Innovation Camp contest
The contest, held in Donostia, Spain, aims to promote the development and marketing of the surf industry.
The students of the Faculty of Engineering’s Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering took part in the Surfboards Innovation Camp contest held in Donostia, presenting 18 projects in total, 9 of them prepared by the students of the Arrasate campus plus 9 by the students of the Orona Ideo campus.
Two groups formed by students of the Higher Polytechnic School were recognised among the best projects presented in the contest. Thus, the group called Måløy, composed of Izaro Zamalloa, June Urkizu, Iñigo Martínez, Ander Navarro and Ekhi Mitxelena has obtained the second prize, thanks to the sensorisation project of the surfboard to provide knowledge of the board’s behaviour in the water. In turn, the group called Inno Surf, composed of Iker Echeandía, Germán Franco, Ainara Gómez and Jon Zabala obtained the third prize. In their case, the project was based on creating a safe modular system for transporting surfboards by car.
The objective of the contest is to promote the surf industry, fostering its development and marketing in order to design higher-quality products and processes. The three best projects developed under these premises received a prize of €1,000 each.
The participation in this contest by the students of the Industrial Master’s Degree of Mondragon Unibertsitatea took place within the framework of the subject Strategy, Research, and Technological Innovation. The proposals made by the students ranged, among others, from the change in the design of the surfboards to proposals for improving their performance or their development from an ecological awareness standpoint.
