The Euspot competition has announced the theme for 2023: ‘I want to work in science and research!’
The twelfth annual Euspot Basque ad competition aims to bring science and research to young people. This year, the main sponsor is the Basque Country 2030 Science, Technology and Innovation Plan.
On January 25, the latest Euspot Basque ad competition was announced at the local office of the Basque Government in San Sebastian, with the following people in attendance: Cristina Uriarte Toledo, Basque Government Commissioner of Science, Technology and Innovation; Arantzazu Lagunilla, Director of Arteman Communication; Goio Arana, Director of Mondragon University’s Communication Campus; Unai Elkoro, Mayor of Aretxabaleta; Naiara Okina, Head of Communication at the Arizmendi School; and Leire Luengo, representative of the Bai Euskarari Association.
The Euspot competition was launched in 2001 to promote the creation of ads in Basque. A pioneer in the Basque Country, it is a leader in the area of creation and advertising in Basque. This is its 12th year in existence and the theme chosen for this year is: “I want to work in science and research!”. This year’s competition is sponsored primarily by the Basque Country 2030 Science, Technology and Innovation Plan.
A very fruitful experience: 600 ads from all over the Basque Country
Euspot is a well-known competition and every year so far has attracted around 600 ads. There is no doubt that audiovisuals are firmly established in all areas and that, as a consequence, the audiovisual format arouses enormous interest, especially among young people. Nevertheless, the Euspot competition is not aimed exclusively at young people; people of many different ages and profiles have participated over the years. It is worth remembering that imagination and creativity are the main ingredients of Euspot. Therefore, the competition is open to all and there are prizes for all ages and levels. It is expected that the contest will again extend to the entire Basque Country, once again breaking all records.
This year’s theme: I want to work in science and research!
The challenge is to create a 30-second ad to promote scientific and technical vocations, inspire interest and passion for science and technology among young people, and participate actively in the transformation of the world. The aim is to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) content to young people and recognize its value, as well as to increase the level of interest in and knowledge about these skills and professions to facilitate young people’s professional development and participation in the construction of future society. We want to promote creativity and a passion for learning by promoting scientific thinking.
We live in a highly technified society in which challenges are more and more complex and global. As we saw in the pandemic, to deal with challenges, we need science more than ever. To face the complexities of today’s world, all people must have a set of skills that stem from multidisciplinarity and creativity. By promoting education and training in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM), we hope to improve the scientific competence of society in general.
