Students of ecotechnologies engineering in industrial processes visit the Orkli company's plant
The visit is part of the university's strategy to bring students closer to the local industrial reality. The activity also encourages students to participate in the dual programme, a pathway that allows them to combine their studies with paid work experience in a company.
During the four years of the engineering degree at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, many actions are carried out to bring students closer to companies and their industrial activity. The university's links with the local industrial network is one of its defining characteristics and is the reason why it has the highest employability rate in engineering in the Basque Country and 5th in Spain (according to the latest report of the Ranking of Spanish Universities by BBVA, published in May 2023).
In this context, the students of the 3rd course of Ecotechnologies Engineering in Industrial Processes - Green Manufacturing - taught at the EKOcampus in Galarreta, visited the company Orkli. The Basque cooperative is a leader in Gas Safety and number one in innovative solutions for heaters and solar. The production plants are automated with intelligent systems and also use artificial vision or advanced metrology technologies. This clear commitment to innovation allows it to offer products and services of quality and excellence to the customer, which places it at the forefront of its market.
During the visit to the Ordicia headquarters, the students of Ecotechnologies Engineering in Industrial Processes - Green Manufacturing - were able to see the production plant, as well as the showroom where the product catalogue is displayed. The topics on which the visit focused were linked to the subjects studied during the second semester of the course, as the students have studied subjects such as advanced industrial automation, quality engineering, electronics and instrumentation, environmental optimisation of processes, among others.
A former student of the same degree from previous years, who is now an Orkli employee, was in charge of the visit and showed the students the reality they will find when they enter the job market. Eskerrik asko Iratxe!
Combining studies and work
Some students of the degree in Ecotechnologies Engineering in Industrial Processes -Green Manufacturing- are already combining their engineering studies with paid internships in companies. They have been doing so since the 2nd year and thanks to Mondragon Unibertsitatea's dual programme. Soon this group of students will begin the fourth year and the assignment of the Final Degree Projects will be made. A percentage will carry out their project in a foreign company or subsidiary, while the rest will join local companies to carry out this training project. In both cases, they will have to provide solutions to real problems by means of innovative solutions for the company.
Good luck team!
