ELKAR-IK; Desarrollo de modelos para la transformación de los entornos laborales en entornos de aprendizaje colaborativos, centrados en las personas y el desarrollo de talento has been funded by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, within the financial aid call of "Programa Promoción del talento y el emprendizaje de las personas en las empresas" (2019).

Research framework:

Given the current knowledge society, the transformation of companies into organisations that base their competitiveness on the development of people, talent and continuous learning is essential. The globalisation of markets and rapid technological advances make change the only constant. Thus, knowledge, learning and talent development are key to achieving the competitiveness and sustainability of the business fabric, alongside its consequent regional socioeconomic development.

As indicated by the European Commission in the New Capacity Agenda for Europe (2016), the acquisition and development of capacities is crucial for the operation and modernisation of labour markets, avoiding gaps in capacities, which may hinder growth and affect the countries’ resilience. To do this, we must work on the transformation of work environments into learning environments, transforming companies into organisations that place people at their centre and base their competitiveness on learning and talent development.

Although this transformation involves the commitment to the training of the people who make up the companies, only one of ten professionals participates in some type of organised training. In addition, one third of the companies in the European Union do not provide any type of training to their staff, and only about one third of the employees take part in any type of course or seminar (EC, 2016).

As observed after an exhaustive analysis on the existing projects at European level that seek to solve this problem, many of the mechanisms and actions implemented are limited to specific actions that are carried out exclusively under the existence of financing. Despite the positive results obtained through them at the time of execution, the need to develop and implement projects that develop tools and models to ensure that the transformation is sustainable over time is identified, ensuring that companies have learning environments even in critical periods. Under this premise, it is observed that university-business cooperation activities (hereinafter, UBC) are an excellent tool for business transformation due to their timeless nature. Both in light of current global and knowledge-intensive markets as in future uncertain markets, companies and universities will increasingly need more.

To do this, it is crucial to carry out research that allows laying the foundations for the development of models for the transformation of work environments into collaborative learning environments, focusing on people and the development of talent, adapted to the characteristics, capabilities and resources of companies and based on the implementation of UBC activities.

Thanks to the development of these transformation models, companies will have tools that allow them to adapt and transform their work environments into collaborative learning environments and talent development, in an autonomous and sustainable way over time. To do this, Elkar-Ik seeks to provide innovative empirical tools so that companies are able to transform, in an autonomous and sustainable way over time, their work environments into collaborative learning environments, centred around people and talent development.

Objectives

Elkar-Ik addresses the following objectives:

Main goal

To develop strategic and sustainable models over time for the transformation of organisations and work environments in contexts that value and foster learning and talent development, through UBC activities.
