Nearly one hundred students participate in the Industrial Design Egg Toss contest

Organised by the Industrial Design Innovation team, the objective of the contest was to design a contraption could protect an egg being tossed, allowing it to be to be thrown as far away as possible without breaking it.

The egg toss contest is known among students of Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa and is part of the activities organised to celebrate the patron saint San Pancrazio.  Thanks to the contest, the participants’ scientific-technical competencies are evaluated, and the motivation of the students is encouraged. In addition, the designed prototypes are tossed from a height of 15 metres.

A chicken egg of medium size (uncooked or soaked in vinegar) that should be visible, cardboard (200 grams), string and contact glue were the only materials that the participants could able to use to design their tossing gadget.

Three categories are awarded:
  1. Design: Building an innovative and aesthetically attractive prototype.
  2. Flight: Achieving an eye-catching flight.
  3. Special mention: aiming at the sky.

The winners of each category were Maider Gardoki, Mikel Pagalday and Igor Lopez de Minain, of the Ovni Machine group; Enara Arruti and Idoia Alvira, of the Flower Power group; and Aitor Arkarazo and Iñaki Urizarbarrena, of the Papa Delta group, all of whom are first-year students of the Degree in Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering.
