Mondragon University professor and ICT Continuing Education coordinator Beatriz Laskurain was a speaker at the business meeting entitled “Implementing AI in your organization,” organized by Bilbomática in Bilbao, where she shared her vision of the effective implementation of Generative Artificial Intelligence in organizations.

In her lecture, Laskurain emphasized that we are at a historic turning point at which “within 1-2 years, AI will automate 80% of the tasks involved in cognitive positions,” which makes it imperative for companies to adopt clear and structured strategies for the implementation of these technologies.

AI expert Laskurain presented a roadmap structured around five fundamental pillars for the successful adoption of these strategies:

1. Creation of a strong foundation: Laskurain stressed the importance of continuous training and AI literacy at all levels of the organization, suggesting the creation of internal “AI Academies” to encourage the development of skills.

2. Establishment of an AI council: she recommended the creation of multidisciplinary teams to lead the implementation strategy and evaluate the impact of these technologies on the organization.

3. Development of responsible principles and policies: she also emphasized the need to establish clear frameworks for the ethical, legal and safe use of AI, especially considering that a significant number of employees use Generative AI tools without defined policies in their organizations.

4. Systematic impact assessment: she presented a comprehensive methodology to assess the impact of AI in different areas of business, from the business model to talent management.

5. Design of an AI roadmap: she highlighted the importance of establishing a strategic vision regarding the central strategic ideas to be promoted using AI and the need to identify use cases and pilot projects of high impact and scalability for a flexible, intelligent and well-thought-out implementation.

Companies must decide whether they want to be ‘birds’ or ‘mice’ in the adoption of AI,” stated Laskurain, referring to the quandary of whether to be pioneers or followers in the implementation of these technologies. “The speed of adoption is key, but it must be accompanied by a robust, responsible and scalable strategy,” she added.

The event, which was organized by Bilbomática of the Altia Group, brought together professionals and experts from the sector to address the challenges and opportunities presented by Generative AI in the current business context. The participation of Mondragon University, through Beatriz Laskurain, underlines the university’s commitment to the transfer of knowledge to the business network in strategic areas such as Artificial Intelligence.
